Designing to cut costs
Where large volumes of small components are involved,
jigging efficiency is clearly vital.
Integration
of extra jigging location holes into component design
-- produced at minimal cost and with no effect on functionality
at machining or stamping stage, can have a dramatic
effect on component density in the tank.
To hammer home to customers how a small design alteration
can affect job cost, LBParkes uses a computerised process
optimisation software.
By slightly changing process parameters, customers can
immediately see how jobs will be affected as costs jump
and fall in front of their eyes, as parameters are changed.
The exercise powerfully demonstrates the effect of taking
account of anodising parameters much more effectively
than can ever be explained in theory.
